Corby Station Link Road

In September 2022, North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) asked members of the public and key stakeholders to share their comments on the proposed plans for pedestrian and cycle routes between Corby town centre and the train station.

All comments that were received during the engagement period have been reviewed, analysed and will help shape the process and final designs going forward. Throughout the engagement, some common themes were identified, grouped together and changes have been (or will be) made.

The Corby Station Link project is part of the Corby Towns Fund, where £19.9m of funding has been secured for, and must be used on, four projects – a new Sixth Form Centre, a multi-use building, Corby Town-Station link and Smart and Connected Corby.

Full information about all the Corby Towns Fund projects are online.

“The scheme is a waste of money and I have concerns over the costs”

We did…

We have reviewed the project costs to ensure they provide value for money and maximises the benefits of the route, whilst staying within the funding remits.

“The scheme is not needed, as there is an existing facility on the South side of Oakley Road”

We did…

We investigated the advantages and disadvantages of keeping the route on the Northern side of Oakley Road or focusing the cycle path to the Southern side.  Through this work it is proposed to move the cycle path to the southern side.

“There are concerns over safety around the existing and proposed changes at East Avenue/Oakley Road junctions, as well as concerns over the loss of on street parking and bus layby”

We did…

By moving the scheme to the southern route along Oakley Road this junction, the street parking and bus layby would not be altered in any way, except improvements to the existing pathways along the northern route in this area.

“We would like to see some more information and justification on the scheme”

We did…

We have looked at the proposed benefits this scheme could bring to this road and will, once complete, add this to the website

“There are concerns about the scheme’s connection to the railway station”

We did…

We have carried out extensive investigations into improving the stairs to the train station car park. Due to land constraints and gradient needed this is not possible. We propose to include the Station Road in this project to provide improvements to this path and allow the connection from town centre to the train station.

“The safety of the existing route is concerning, including how well lit the route is”

We have included improvements to the lighting and the removal of the underpass into our costings to improve the safety of all users along the path.
